Office of Annette of Droste-Hülshoff

The Fürstenhäusle has housed a museum devoted to the life and work of Annette of Droste-Hülshoff since 1923.  A distant relative, heir to the house, had put together a collection for this purpose following the author's death.  For example, the Biedermeier secretaire at which Ms. Droste wrote many of her literary works has been preserved here.  A large number of portraits on the walls show the former resident, her family and people who were important to her.  Original manuscripts, illustrations for her poems, first and early editions are among the museum's many treasures.  Supplemented by personal effects like jewelry and china, the lovingly decorated rooms of the museum enable a very private visit with the poetess.

To ensure the continued existence of the collection, the state of Baden-Württemberg purchased the building in 1960.  It is therefore adminstrated by the State Palaces and Gardens.
